Understanding RPL
Start with the requirements, then examine the experience.
Recognition of Prior Learning is an assessment pathway that considers relevant skills and knowledge gained through work, learning and other experience. The focus is demonstrating the requirements of the relevant training product, not simply recording time spent in a role.
An RPL conversation can help identify relevant experience, available evidence and areas that need further exploration. A qualified assessor and the responsible training provider determine what is required in the particular assessment.
Work experience does not automatically lead to a qualification. There may be gaps, further evidence requests or additional learning and assessment. The outcome depends on the assessment process and the evidence considered.
